Gibsonton is known as the "Circus Capital of the World" because it was once home to a number of circuses and performers. There is even a Circus Museum in town that tells the story of the circus in Gibsonton.
Percilla the Monkey Girl, the Anatomical Wonder, and the Lobster Boy once lived here. Siamese twin sisters ran a fruit stand here. At one time, it had the only post office with a counter for little people. Gibsonton offered unique circus zoning laws that allowed neighbors to keep elephants and circus trailers on their front lawns.
