We know everybody’s needs are not the same. So to help you be better informed before purchasing your next heating and cooling system, we’ve created a helpful list that details the positive and negative aspects of the different types of units available today.

Heat Pumps

  • 30 to 40% more efficient than heating with electric element heat strip.
  • Does not burn fuel
  • All electric
  • Very reliable

  • Heating time is not quite as fast as oil or gas furnaces.

Furnace – Gas Fired Furnace

  • Heats up house quicker than heat pump
  • More efficient than a heat pump

  • Needs to have natural gas line to house or a propane tank
  • Burns fuel polluting air
  • Needs flu pipe through roof
  • Carbon monoxide sensor
  • Need to add A/C coil on top of furnace for cooling – these can be difficult to clean and maintain

Furnaces – Oil Fired Furnace

  • Heats up house quicker than heat pump

Negatives – same as gas, except:

  • Most Tampa Bay A/C companies typically do not have technicians to work on equipment
  • Dirtier than gas and has stronger odor
  • Needs flu pipe through roof
  • Requires fuel tank and yearly testing if fuel tanks are buried in the ground.
