Your thermostat is the main control center for your A/C and heating system.
If you notice the temperature reading is not adding up to what you are actually feeling in your home, your thermostat could be facing several issues that can affect your HVAC system. Here are several reasons why your thermostat might not be working correctly and what you can do about it.
Loss of Power
Your thermostat may go blank. When this occurs, be sure the thermostat is on. It happens, an easy fix. Also, check to be sure you don’t have a tripped circuit breaker.
Be aware, it may take up to 5-10 minutes for your system to reboot.
You can also adjust the thermostat brightness display. Replace the batteries often. Batteries left to corrode in older model thermostats will cause it to malfunction.
Size of A/C system
If your A/C system is too small for your home or not designed to cover an area size, your thermostat might not reach the set temperature. Solution: Be sure you have the proper size A/C system for your home or condo.
Location is also extremely important. Thermostats placed near doorways or draft areas will often register the wrong or conflicting indoor temperatures. The thermostat should be located near the A/C return air filter and on an inside wall.
